The Nazi's felt it was important to have a flag to show their support for Hitler's leadership. The Swastika represented the struggle for victory for the Aryan man. Every time people of Germany saw the Nazi flag, they had to honor Hitler by doing the Nazi salute. By doing this, people showed pride and respect for their new leader. This can be compared to the same way Americans honor our flag by placing our hands over our hearts and saying the pledge of allegiance or sing the National Anthem, Germans would say "Heil Hitler" and put their arms out to salute Hitler. The Hitler flag represented Hitler's idea of a new Germany.

The Nazi flag was a very important artifact in my book because my book focused on turning young German boys into future Nazi soldiers. By constantly showing the flag and forcing the salute, these young kids will make this a habit because they see the flag everyday and are forced to salute their master. The Hitler Youth does not have the option to think for themselves and go against the Nazi flag. In my book, Helmuth's daydreams are about swastika armbands and Nazi flags.
I feel the flag of the Nazi Party is a sad memory for all those who grew up in the Hitler Youth. The flag does not change my personal opinion because it is just a flag. I feel the war would have been the same with or without this artifact. If it wasn't the flag, it would have been a picture of Hitler or some other reminder of his powers in Germany during WWII.
