The Opposite of Love

When you look in the dictionary, Webster defines hate as an intense dislike for something or someone. Outside of the dictionary and in society, hate has many different meanings for many different people. Hate is a strong word and is often misused by people that don't understand the impact of this word. For example, I might say that I hate school but in reality, school is just something that has certain parts that I don't necessarily care for. Even though I say I hate school, I actually like coming here and seeing my friends and sometimes even doing some of the projects assigned. In school, people are always saying they hate other people even they don't know them. In reality, if you don't know someone, you can't judge them enough to hate them. These are just two of many examples when people misunderstand the word hate.

“Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it” Adolf Hitler

During World War II, the Jewish people suffered the most discrimination during the Holocaust. The Nazi's abused, tortured, and took advantage of millions of Jewish people in Europe simply because of their religious beliefs. Because the Nazi's hated the Jews, they told the Germans not to shop at the Jewish stores to hurt their economy. The Nazi's also painted yellow Jewish stars on the front door of Jewish businesses to make sure there was no confusion as to who was Jewish. This was another attempt to discriminate and show hatred towards the Jews.

“He alone, who owns the youth, gains the future."
Adolf Hitler

Even though the jews treated horribly by the germans, germans also faced their own type of discrimination during WWII. If germans believed other germans did not fully support Hitlers beliefs, they would perposely imbarrass and harass the non believer in front of others so they can be discriminated against. For example, in my book The Boy Who Dared, the faith of the Hitler Youth was tested where ever the young children of Germany went. Helmuth is a young boy forced to accept Hitlers beliefs, regardless what his own ideas were. When his teacher tells the class the meaning of the painting fulfilling his last duty, Helmuth questions what it means to be a good German. The teacher, enraged, puts down Helmuth in front of his classmates, allowing them to discriminate against his thoughts and beliefs. Helmuth, like many other German children, was forced to accepts Hitlers rules.

In the year 2010, there is much dicrimination occuring in the USA. The one group of people who is constantly being discriminated against is the Black community. This particular group constantly has to prove themselves. Most of the rap music today is done by African-Americans and they do not prove themselves in the right way. Lil Wayne, for example, raps about drugs. 50 Cent raps about treating like women like crap. Kanye West raps about stealing. The problem is that these men are suppose to be role models. Instead of being role models, they are teaching young kids to rape, steal, and do drugs; which are all the things the Black community get discriminated for.
